Are you experiencing low back pain in pregnancy?
It is common to hear about pain during pregnancy, but not all pain is normal. While some discomfort is to be expected as your body adapts to the changes of pregnancy, sharp, one-sided pain that gets worse over time and is aggravated by movement is not normal and can often be treated.
Should you expect pain in pregnancy?
In addition to muscle fatigue and ligament twinges, pregnancy can also put pressure on blood vessels and organs, leading to discomfort. It is important to pay attention to the type of pain you are experiencing and seek help if it’s not your usual discomfort and interferes with your daily activities.
Pregnancy pains should never be ignored – they’re like warning signs from your body that something’s not quite right. Even those shooting ligament pains that catch you off guard when you stand up too quickly or take a step too fast – they’re telling you that your uterus is stretching to make space for your growing little one.
Now, while this may be a common pain during pregnancy, it’s important to pay attention to any pain that’s consistently occurring on one side. This could be a signal from your body that your uterus isn’t properly positioned in your pelvis – a crucial aspect of a healthy pregnancy. So don’t dismiss these warning signs – your body is trying to communicate with you, and it’s up to you to listen and take action.
Although pregnancy pain is a common experience, it should not be dismissed as a normal part of the journey. Every expecting mother deserves to have a comfortable and healthy pregnancy, free from unnecessary discomfort and pain.

Should I expect low back pain in pregnancy?
As miraculous as pregnancy can be, it can also bring its fair share of physical challenges – one of the most common being low back pain. And while a little discomfort at the end of a long day is to be expected, persistent or worsening pain should never be ignored.
During pregnancy, your body undergoes a process of softening and widening to make space for your growing baby. This is thanks to the hormone “relaxin,” which can exacerbate any pre-existing low back pain or even cause it to reappear. That’s why it’s crucial to seek the advice of a chiropractor or physical therapist who specializes in women’s health before becoming pregnant – to ensure your body is in balance and ready for the physical demands of pregnancy.
As your belly grows and your posture shifts, muscles on either side of your spine work overtime to keep you upright. However, if your pelvis is pulled too far forward or other stabilising muscles are weakened, your back muscles can quickly become overloaded and lead to persistent low back pain. So, while a little discomfort is expected, never dismiss pain during pregnancy – listen to your body and seek help if necessary.
The good news for low back pain!
If you’re dealing with low back pain, there is good news – it’s a problem that can be resolved through gentle muscle release and stretching. However, it’s important to address the underlying issues that led to the pain in the first place if you want to achieve long-term relief. This means correcting muscle imbalances and weaknesses, improving pelvic alignment and posture, building core and pelvic floor strength, and addressing any previous injuries that may be contributing to the problem.
Other common conditions in pregnancy
